    Date: Weds, Oct 12, 2022

    Time: 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Place: SE 26th at Powell Blvd

What: Human Protected Bike Lane Demonstration & Silent Vigil for Sarah Pliner

    Wear: Bright Green

Gather in solidarity with The Street Trust, Oregon Walks, Bike Loud PDX and others to demand that ODOT restore the bicycle safety facilities on SE 26th at Powell Blvd to at minimum the state they were prior to their removal in 2018, including the return of the green bike boxes.

In 2018, ODOT steamrolled local interests when they forced the community to remove safety infrastructure for people bicycling and rolling along SE 26th Ave near Powell Blvd. These decisions reduced visibility and safety for people riding bicycles. This week, beloved local chef and daily bicycle commuter Sarah Pliner was killed by a semi-truck while commuting to work by bicycle through this space.

We need hundreds of you to come together and stand arm-in-arm with us to honor Sarah and reclaim street space for our most vulnerable users. Together, we will demand that ODOT IMMEDIATELY restore the life-saving infrastructure that the agency forced out as a first step in improving safety in this area for our community.

We will maintain complete silence in our human bike lane configuration between 3:45 - 4:15 pm in observance of Sarah Pliner’s untimely death on Oct 4, 2022.

Please read Bikeloud PDX and The Street Trust's  initial response to this tragic event and join us in shaping the better future of this intersection for the benefit of the community, including local residents and the students, families, and staff of Cleveland High School.
